2. When to pray?
In our busy lives, we find it hard to dedicate time to pray, myself included. So is it very difficult to Pray without ceasing? No, not really. However, we need to get the engine going. If you have not had the habit of praying regularly, it will be slightly uneasy at first, persevere for a week or two, it will slowly become a part of you. Someone said persevere for 21 days and it will be your new habit or lifestyle.
I take the bus to work, and every time when I leave my home, on most days I will start talking to God on what is on my mind (thanksgiving or concerns) and claim some of the promises he gave me. When I find no one around me, I may even verbalize my words as if He is beside me listening. This has been useful in helping my prayer life. The total journey is about 20 to 30 minutes. No, I don’t pray all the way to the office. My prayer could be 3 to 5 minutes only.
The following covers some of what the Word of God says about when to pray. I would encourage us to take time to meditate on the verses on when to pray?
- Pray without ceasing – In other word, praying continually. Does it mean praying non-stop 24×7? No, rather we should have an attitude of consulting God in everything throughout the day. Every moment we should have the awareness that God is with us and ready to listen to us pray, even if it is for a few seconds or a few minutes, pray.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing;
Make prayer a part of your lifestyle: When we are happy, when we are sad; when we are confused; when we need to make critical decisions; when we marvel at the wonderful world He gave us, the first thing that comes to mind is to bring these things to him in prayer. That is what I believe is meant by Pray without ceasing. Do often enough; it will be a lifestyle of Praying without ceasing. As mentioned earlier, if we persist for 21 days it becomes a habit in our lives, in other words a lifestyle of prayer.
- In all circumstances: Bring everything to God, In other words, we should pray when there is a need, and when there is No need. Where there is no need, then we give praise and thanksgiving.
Philippians 4: 6, 7 - 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
- Early morning as Jesus did: Jesus started the day in prayer
Mark 1:35 - 35Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
This list is by no means exhaustive. I am sure there are more reasons on when we pray. If you send to me I can add to the list and expand the blessing to all readers.
Please take some time to meditate on the verses and as you meditate, you could also pop in at the Worship Video Section and have a mini- worship session.
