Prayer is our critical connection or link with God. Without it we have no relationship with God. What I have done is to lay out the verses for us to consider. It would be good to take time to meditate on why pray?

  • The Bible commands us to pray:

Philippians 4:6, 7 - 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

  • God’s will for us to Pray without ceasing:

1 Thessalonians 5:17, 18 - 17pray without ceasing; 18give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

  • Jesus prayed:

Mark 1:35 - 35Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

  • Invitation to fellowship with Jesus:

Revelation 3:20 - 20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

  • To pray in preparation for major decisions as Jesus did:

Luke 6:12-13 - 12One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. 13When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:

  • To gather workers for the spiritual harvest :

Luke 10:2 - 2He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

  • To gain strength to overcome temptation :

Matthew 26:41 - 41“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

  • Our Enemy is lurking:

1 Peter 5: 8-9 -  8Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

  • To receive answered prayers :

John 16:24 - 24Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

This list is not exhaustive. If you have other reasons why we pray, do share with us and bless others. If you send to me I can add to the list and expand the blessing to all readers.

Please take some time to meditate on the verses and as you meditate, you could also pop in at the Worship Video Section and have a mini- worship session.

God Bless

Ben
